PSY 3205: Psychology of Gender


This course will examine psychological theories and research related to gender, particularly focusing on empirical investigations that examine gender differences and similarities in behaviors, experiences, and expectations. Topics will include gender development, gender roles, and the role of gender in cognitive abilities, physical and mental health, social behavior, power, work, and relationships.


  1. Demonstrate an understanding of terminology related to sex and gender.
  2. Describe the structure of relevant biological functions related to sexual health.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of the theoretical foundations and empirical findings related to sex and gender.
  4. Analyze the role of gender in your own behavior as well as in the lives of others.
  5. Explain theories of gender identification.
  6. Analyze the psychological aspects of sex and gender problems.
  7. Discuss issues of prejudice and discrimination as they apply to gender and identify ways to reduce these phenomena.
