FSC 3210: Fire Dynamics

Description

Examines the underlying principles involved in structural fire protection systems, building furnishings, and fire protection systems, including water-based fire suppression systems, fire alarm and detection systems, special hazard suppression systems, and smoke management systems.

Objectives

  1. Analyze building structural components for fire resistance.
  2. Explain the flame spread of building materials.
  3. Calculate heat release rate for combustibles.
  4. Describe the fire growth process given a specific fuel type.
  5. Explain the process of flame spread over fuels.
  6. Calculate the factors associated with fire dynamics.
  7. Explain smoke and its dangers.
  8. Describe the importance of smoke production in correlation to fire suppression activities.
