The Newton Fire Department Scholarship is dedicated to supporting the brave men and women of the Newton Fire Department as they pursue their educational and professional development goals. This scholarship recognizes firefighters' courage, dedication, and service in protecting and serving their community. By providing financial assistance for higher education, the Newton Fire Department Scholarship honors their commitment to excellence both on and off the job, empowering them to enhance their skills and knowledge to better serve the citizens of Newton and beyond.
ELIGIBILITY
- Waldorf University will grant one scholarship to one firefighter of Newton Fire Department.
- Scholarship applicants must have a high school transcript or equivalent (GED).
- Scholarship applicants must be able to maintain continuous enrollment in his or her degree program.
- Scholarship applicants must have a current application for admission to Waldorf University OR be current students. Visit https://www.waldorf.edu/apply/ and select “online programs” (scholarship is awarded for online programs only).
- Scholarship applicants must provide a verification document to show eligibility. Acceptable verification documents include:
- A statement of employment on letterhead,
- Copy of an employment card,
- Recommendation letter from a supervisor or HR rep.
- The scholarship recipient must enroll within ninety days (90) from the award notification date. If the recipient does not enroll within this timeframe, he/she will lose the scholarship.
- The scholarship recipient is required to maintain a minimum 2.0 undergraduate GPA and 3.0 graduate GPA.
AMOUNT OF AWARD
This scholarship will cover up to 60 credit hours toward one online degree program offered by Waldorf University (recipient’s choice). The scholarship will be applied directly to the recipient’s tuition for up to 36 consecutive months or until the selected online degree program is completed, whichever occurs first. The scholarship covers tuition only. Waldorf University's Loan-a-Book program will cover textbooks. The student is responsible for any other “optional” student fee(s). One complimentary evaluation will be completed to evaluate potential transfer credits from past education and/or professional certifications (Fire, Emergency Management, etc.). Waldorf University will also evaluate military CCAF and JST transcripts, if applicable.
NUMBER OF AWARDS
One non-transferable scholarship.
SUBMISSION WINDOW
Submissions will be accepted from Apr 1 through Jun 30.
DATE OF AWARD
The Recipient will be announced no later than August 31. Newton Fire Department and Waldorf University will coordinate a presentation at the recipient's convenience.
