Housing Selection Process

How and when do I sign up for housing?

Pick-a-Chip
The housing selection process for all housing options will be based on a *lottery drawing.

There will be three boxes in the Residence Life Office (across from the Campus Information Center) to select a number from. Opportunities to choose a number will take place from Friday, March 20 to Friday, March 23, 2018, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Note: This does not include Theme Houses and Timberland Apartments, however residents applying for these ooptions still need to Pick-a-Chip in case they are not selected for a Theme House or Timberland Apartment. See section for details on application process.

Attend Housing Sign-Up Day
Once you’ve picked your chip on the appropriate date and time for your class status, you will know what order to line up in on Housing Sign-Up day. Housing sign-up will take place Wednesday, March 28, 2018, from 5-8 p.m. Bring your student ID with you on selection day.

  • Fall Semester Seniors: 5-5:45 p.m.
  • Fall Semester Juniors: 5:45-6:30 p.m.
  • Fall Semester Sophomores: 6:30-7:15 p.m.
  • Anyone unable to attend earlier drawings: 7:15-8 p.m.

Note: For students who are unable to be at housing sign-up, you may pick up a proxy form from the Residence Life Office by Tuesday, March 13, 2018. Complete and return the form to the Residence Life Office or give it to the person who will represent you during housing selection. The proxy form will indicate that you are authorizing someone to select a room. You will need to stop by the Residence Life Office to sign a housing contract, select your meal plan and reserve your parking permit by 4 p.m. on Friday, March 30, 2018.

Sign-Up Order
Students will be listed according to their chip picked, with the lower numbers been listed first. The lower your number, the earlier you get to choose in the process. Two students who want to be roommates may sign up during the first roommate’s turn.

Sign Up for Housing
Housing sign-up will be based on the number of credits earned by the end of the fall 2018 semester. It is each student’s responsibility to know how many credits he or she has. If a student signs up with the wrong class, the student will be placed at the bottom of the appropriate class.

Credit Requirements:
Rising Senior: 86+ credits
Rising Junior: 54-85 credits
Rising Sophomore: 53 or fewer credits
*Credits do not include 2017 summer session credits.

Current Residents

All students currently living in Breen, Tanner or Ormseth Halls, who intend to maintain their current rooms and roommate(s) for the coming year will be given the privilege to do so without having to go through the entire selection process.

Those students will need to complete a squatter’s rights form at the Residence Life Office in the Campus Center February 26-March 2, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. They will also need to sign housing contracts, select meal plans and sign up for parking.

Theme Houses and Timberland Apartments

Theme Houses and Timberland applications are due to the Residence Life Office by 4 p.m. on Friday, March 2, 2018. Interviews for both will be held during the week of March 20-23, 2018, and students may sign up for an interview time at the CIC desk (Campus Center) the week before interviews occur.

Selections for the Theme Houses and Timberland Apartments will be announced after the lottery drawing. Students are strongly encouraged to pick-a-chip between Tuesday, March 20 and Friday, March 23, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., in case they are not selected for a Theme House or Timberland apartment.

Students are responsible for reading this information and the housing contract, and seeking clarification regarding the housing process. You may find the housing contract online at: waldorf.edu/housingforms.

As indicated in the housing contract, all residential students (except for those in Timberland) are required to have a meal plan. Requests for exemption need to be made to the dean of students.
