Melissa has spent most of her life in Albany, N.Y. and has just recently relocated to the vicinity of Tampa, Fla. She has previously held the position of Emergency Manager for NYS Dept. of Labor where she was responsible for internal emergency preparedness, continuity of operations and emergency communications for 91 locations and over 4000 employees. She coordinated agency response to state emergencies and participated at the state EOC for three disaster declarations, in addition to being on the state Radiation Emergency Planning Team. Dr. Pinke owns her own consulting company, Code Pinke Crisis Planning, which provides organizational assistance in developing effective safety, emergency preparedness and training programs. She also teaches safety and emergency preparedness classes for both private companies and at the FEMA Center for Domestic Preparedness.

Dr. Pinke has over twenty years experience with OSHA safety and health, establishing health and safety programs that includes preparedness and response in the chemical, manufacturing, retail, school systems and state government. She has also conducted Fire Code enforcement and asbestos inspections. For the past fifteen years, her emphasis has been more on organizational emergency response for bomb threats, evacuations, active shooter and severe weather events. She has also provided both corporate and college level training programs and have taught over 100 CPR/FA classes.

Dr. Pinke's dissertation was on hospital emergency preparedness training programs before and after major disaster events. She also holds many other certificates including Public Information Officer, Radiation Planning and Response, Hospital Emergency Response Teams, HAZMAT/Hazwoper, ICS-400 , Community Emergency Response Team Instructor and a National Safety Council CPR/FA Instructor Trainer. Dr. PInke has also published several emergency preparedness articles.

Her research interests include: organizational preparedness & response, effective training implementation, policies and procedure development, along with planning and response for people with special needs, as well as helping pets in disasters.

Dr. Pinke loves spending time on or near the Gulf of Mexico where she lives. She likes 70's and 80's music; enjoys dancing, nature and spending time with her pets: two dogs, a cat and a parrot.
