M.Sci.Ed. in Reading & Literacy PreK-6 – Walden University; Minn.
B.A. in Elementary Education – Wartburg College; Waverly, Iowa
Melia graduated from Wartburg College in 2006 where she then went on to teach 3rd and 4th grade in a combined classroom at Sioux Central Elementary in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. She then moved closer to home where she taught Title One Reading for K-5th grade students at West Marshall Elementary in State Center, Iowa. Along with all of her teaching duties, she was the assistant high school volleyball coach, assistant high school girls basketball coach and junior high softball coach. After teaching Title One Reading for 12 years, she met her husband Ben Slinger and was married April 2016. She now resides in her hometown of Ellsworth, Iowa with her husband and 2 children (Tanner and Haley). Melia and her husband raise turkeys and grain with her family. Along with staying home chasing after 2 kids, Melia also has taught numerous literacy courses with Buena Vista University.
