Maurie N. Tomke, M.C.A.A. & M.S.C.E.

Tomke has worked in many facets of the sport management world. His coaching career started in 2006 and spanned until 2016. Tomke made stops at Bishop Heelan Catholic High School and Sioux City East Middle School and High School before moving to the college ranks. He spent one year at Bridgewater State University in Massachusetts, then moved on to Ellsworth Community College where he spent 6 years and helped lead the team to a 3rd place finish at the NJCAA National Tournament and a National Runner-up finish at the NWCA National Duals. He was also co-head Men’s and Women’s golf coach for one season. During that time at ECC, Tomke also held many administrative roles within the housing, campus recreation and activities departments, as well as in the campus activity center.

Tomke’s last two years at Ellsworth CC he held the administrative role of Athletics and Student Engagement Coordinator, along with serving as a volunteer wrestling coach.

Tomke spent the 2020-21 wrestling as Interim Men’s Head Wrestling Coach. He doubled the roster size from 8 to 20 wrestlers over the 2020 summer, along with recruited 6 of the 10 recruits for the 2021-22 roster.

Tomke has had the honor of working outside the school setting with sport administration. He has worked with USA Wrestling on a number of different national tournament. Most notably the 2006 World Team Trails, and annually the Preseason Folkstyle Nationals tournament. Also, Tomke has served as the tournament director for the ICCAC/NJCAA Region XI National Qualifying Tournament on many occasions. During the 2008 baseball season, Tomke worked in the front office of the Sioux City Explorers.

Since coming to Waldorf University in the fall of 2018, Tomke has served as a wrestling consultant for area wrestling team such as Ellsworth CC and Indian Hills CC. He has assisted both teams at the NJCAA National Wrestling Tournament and has assisted in recruiting.

Tomke resides in Forest City, Iowa, with his wife Jessica and their two children, daughter Charlotte and son Jacob.
