Dr. Kevin Schilling is an Associate Professor Emeritus at Iowa State University where he taught for 41 years before retiring in 2013. His teaching duties there included private instruction of oboe and bassoon, double reed techniques, theory, and chamber music. He was also the academic advising coordinator for the Department of Music.
Dr. Schilling has performed oboe and/or bassoon in the Des Moines Metro Opera Orchestra, the Des Moines Symphony, Orchestra Iowa, the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Orchestra, the Fort Dodge Symphony, Central Iowa Symphony, Ottumwa Symphony and the Oskaloosa Symphony. He was the first to receive the Doctor of Music degree in oboe performance from Indiana University. With organ and harpsichord artist and colleague Lynn Zeigler, he performed in Basically Baroque, a duo that performed around the state as part of the Iowa Arts Council’s Arts to Go program as well as appearing in Indiana, Colorado, Ill. and Germany. Since coming to Iowa in 1972 he has taught numerous high school oboe and bassoon students, including many All-State players. He continues to perform, including playing principal oboe with the Central Iowa and Ottumwa Symphonies.
