C. David Rutt, M.M.Ed.

C. David Rutt recently retired from teaching after concluding a successful 35-year career directing Instrumental Music ensembles in Iowa, 24 of those as Director of Bands at Forest City High School in Forest City, Iowa. During his tenure, the FCHS Bands maintained their strong tradition of excellence. The FCHS Marching Band received Division I ratings during all of these years, creating a school record 33 consecutive years as a Division I (Superior) recipient. The marching band has also place first or second in parade competitions on the local, state, national and international levels during these years. The FCHS Concert Band has also continued it's reputation of excellence, receiving Division I (Superior) ratings 22 of the past 24 years. IN addition to his work in the Forest City district, Mr. Rutt has served the I-35 Community school district in Central Iowa and the Central Lee Community School district in southeast Iowa.

Mr. Rutt holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education from Upper Iowa University and a Masters degree in Music Education from the University of Northern Iowa. While serving as Director of Bands in the Central Lee community schools, his band was chose to serve as the "Official Welcoming Band" for President and Mrs. Jimmy Carter in a stop in Burlington.

Mr. Rutt continues to serve as the Exhibits Chair for the Iowa Music Educators State Conference after being involved for ten years with the Iowa All-State Music Festival, the last six years as the Chair of the Iowa All-State Band. He has served on the Executive Board of the Iowa High School Music Association as a member of the District Advisory Group. Mr. Rutt is an active adjudicator in the areas of marching, solo/small ensemble and concert band, and has judged festivals in Iowa, Minnesota and Illinois. Within this adjudication experience, he has worked with student in all I.H.S.M.A. classes and has maintained a high approval rating for his adjudicated work. He has served as a clinician and guest conductor with area high school, middle school and elementary bands, and honor band festivals.

Mr. Rutt has traveled extensively with his own bands within the United States in competitions and festivals in Texas, California, Florida, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Illinois and Washington, D.C. Mr. Rutt has also served as a staff member with the "Iowa Ambassadors" program in travels to Europe. It is because of his extensive travel experience that lead him to pursue a new career as a professional Tour Manager in his "life after retirement."
