Fall 2020 Update 9/14/2020

As continued steps are taken to maintain a healthy environment within the Waldorf University community, the decision has been made to cancel the following men’s soccer games due to three players testing positive for COVID-19;
Sept. 14 vs. Dakota Wesleyan
Sept. 16 vs. Northwestern
Sept. 19 vs. Dordt

The university’s primary concern is and will continue to be, maintaining a proactive approach in overcoming the possible spread of the COVID virus within the Waldorf University campus population and the surrounding community.

“We are proud of our players for the steps they are taking in being transparent with any health concerns they may have,” said Waldorf University Director of Athletics Chad Gassman. “As a small university, we are in a prime position to continue competition in all sports with only minor inconveniences such as this. These decisions are never easy because we understand how hard these players work, but ultimately we must stay focused to allow regular competition to continue by occasionally stepping away from the field to ensure the health of those players.”

Regular competition for men’s soccer is scheduled to continue beginning Oct. 3 vs. Mount Marty. All other sports programs are currently unaffected and will maintain their current competition schedules.

The university has provided the opportunity for testing to all campus members.

Testing results as of September 14, 2020:

Fall 2020 Update 9/8/2020:

The current most results of our COVID testing have come back, which has provided us with some updated numbers to share. Currently, out of 541 tests, 14 have tested positive and all have recovered. Our percent of individuals who have tested positive sits at 2.6%.

Additionally, due to current circumstances, the commencement ceremony for 2020 graduates which was scheduled to be held during the Homecoming celebration of Oct. 16-18, has been postponed. The ceremony has been rescheduled in conjunction with the Spring 2021 graduation ceremony. 2020 graduates will have the opportunity to participate in a formal commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 9, 2021. Please watch for additional details in the coming weeks. We appreciate your patience in this matter. Our goal is to provide the celebration you deserve for all of the hard work that you have put in. Go Warriors!

Fall 2020 Update 8/28/2020:

Students, faculty, and staff have returned and we are excited to feel that energy back on campus. We have embraced the necessary adjustments to enable us to move through the semester as safely as possible.

Students are being, or have been, tested as a part of our ongoing efforts. Currently out of approximately 450 tests, 14 have tested positive, eight have recovered, and six are still active and isolating. The current percent of individuals who have tested positive sits at approximately 3.5%.

Additional precautions include an elevated awareness to social distancing, the required use of protective masks when the recommended distance cannot be maintained, post-test quarantining until test results have been received, and isolation as recommended by the CDC in the case of a positive test result.

We want to be as proactive as possible. Testing students as they arrived to campus is just one-step in actively protecting the bubble of our community. We will continue to work as a unified front in these efforts.

Face-to-face courses began on Wednesday, August 26.
