Program Features

We offer substantial creative writing scholarships, up to full tuition in the case of deserving applicants, and these scholarships are renewable for all four years of study. Scholarship are awarded to students with scholastic achievements and high quality writing ability. Additionally, the Pillars Program awards scholarships to scholars with interest in creative writing.

Students in the program can be active members of the Warriors Writing Club, which meets weekly to share writing and help with planned activities such as Open Mic events. Students can also apply to edit and produce Waldorf Literary Review: A Journal of Engaged Writing, the annual campus literary magazine.

In addition to publishing their work in the Waldorf Literary Review, students are invited to submit work to the Salveson Prizes in Prose and Poetry each year. Students can assist with an annual Top of Iowa High School Writing Contest, sponsored by the Waldorf Creative Writing Program. And finally, our Distinguished Visiting Writers Series is a unique guest-author series designed to offer students a deeper insight into writing. In the past, students have worked with nationally recognized authors such as Lauren Alleyne, Kij Johnson, and Benjamin Percy.
