International Rights Internship

at Perseus Books, a division of Hachette Book Group



This is a paid internship opportunity in subsidiary rights. The International Rights Intern plays a crucial role in the following:


Rights Checks

  • Researching and interpreting contracts to determine available rights for foreign sub-agents and publishers
  • Corresponding with department manager and directors, as well as subagents and foreign publishers


Catalogue Blurbs

  • Writing creative catalogue copy for Perseus’ foreign rights guide
  • Writing pitch letters to promote interest in our books abroad


Book Orders

  • Ordering review copies to be sent abroad to subagents and foreign publishers
  • Logging all orders and processing order batches each week
  • Processing and mailing foreign editions of our titles
  • Sending book PDFs to subagents and uploading PDFs to Perseus’ FTP site



  • Scanning and filing foreign licenses
  • Recordkeeping projects as necessary
  • Tracking the status of incoming pre-publication materials


The Ideal Candidate:

  • Junior and Senior undergraduates are welcome to apply
  • Excited to learn about the processes of licensing and publishing translations
  • Excellent at verbal and written communication (an emphasis on clarity!)
  • Detail-oriented, organized, self-motivated, and dependable
  • Able to work independently and in a timely manner
  •      Fun!!!


The International Rights Intern reports directly to the Subsidiary Rights Coordinator.


Selected candidates will be interviewed on a rolling basis.
