Public relations is vital to the success of fire departments across the country. Waldorf’s Bachelor of Science in fire science with a concentration in public relations features courses identified by the National Fire Academy, U.S. Fire Administration and the National Fire Protection Association for use in academic settings. Learn how to strategically share stories, plans, knowledge and more to build transparency and trust between your fire deparment and its community.

Public Relations Concentration

The concentration in public relations introduces students to the application of information gathering and dissemination as it relates to the field of fire science. Through this program, students develop the skills necessary to directly engage with diverse audiences and communities, which includes compelling courses on the power of persuasive communication, the keys to special event planning and the production of social media content.

Estimated time of completion of this program is four years for full-time students.

B.A./B.S. Degree Requirements

  • Completion of the core curriculum and the curriculum for the major, totaling 120 credits
  • A grade of C or higher in all coursework in the major and, if applicable, in the concentration(s)
  • 2.00 cumulative grade point average for work completed at Waldorf
