Waldorf University to Host Artist Reception for Textile Artist Joanne Alberda
FOREST CITY, IOWA, Aug. 20, 2019 –
Waldorf University to host an artist reception for fiber artist Joanne Alberda on Thursday Oct. 14 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Waldorf University Gallery housed in the Campus Center located at 106 S. 6
St Forest City, Ia. 50436. An artist talk will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Born and educated in the mountains of Montana, Joanne Alberda moved to Iowa in her early 20’s. She learned to love the mid-western landscape. The rich history of the prairies, the vastness of space, the dark loamy soil, and the changing seasons provide an unending source of inspiration for her vision as a fiber artist.
Alberda taught art for 30 years in a small college art department, a career that was characterized by engaging in multiple mediums, as well as a good deal of art history. She loved it all, and still finds it difficult to stick to a single medium. Looking back, however, her focus remains quite steady. She gradually developed a body of work that expresses a personal vision and style, but still explores multiple subjects and techniques.
Alberda’s exhibition titled “Blue Marbles” is a celebration of one of her favorite themes, the circle. Referring to several different themes within her work, representation of the solar system and planets is the focus. She finds that within photographs of the solar system she is mostly drawn to the marble-like appearance of the planets thus inspiring her creations. Within her work she finds she often wrestles with concepts such as time, space, and motion.
Alberda’s artistic talents will be on display in the Waldorf University Gallery beginning Aug. 28 and remaining until Oct. 14. The gallery is free to the public.
