Waldorf University’s Warrior Theatre Company presents Theatre 101 for Kids, June 5-8 from 1-3 p.m. in the Smith Theatre.

Kids, ages 6-10, are invited to attend this four-day introduction to theatre basics.

“This is our first year of offering theatre basics to kids,” said Waldorf University Assistant Professor of Theatre Marla Britton-Johnson. “Through a combination of fun games and activities, kids will get a behind the scenes look at theatre and learn how we put on a show. We are excited to have the kids here to show them what we do at Waldorf!”

Kids will not only learn about acting, but also how certain elements, like lighting, can impact a performance. They will go behind the scenes in Smith Theatre, as well as see Waldorf’s costume shop and prop room. Waldorf University theatre students will also be on hand throughout the week to help teach theatre basics.

“I’m excited that some of our current theatre students will be helping with our theatre basics class,” Johnson said.  “The theatre students are all kids at heart, so they are looking forward to the fun interaction with the 6-10 year olds.”

Current Waldorf University theatre students will also be performing “Jackie and the Potato Stalk” at several locations in North Iowa May 30-June 2. “Jackie and the Potato Stalk” is an engaging play of what happens after “Jack and the Bean Stalk.” For a list of locations and time, please visit: http://www.waldorf.edu/fine-arts/theatre/theatre-tour

“We are really looking forward to bringing two weeks of theatre fun to kids in North Iowa,” Johnson added.  “Waldorf prides itself in being a community partner, and this is great opportunity for us to showcase the talented students, faculty and facilities Waldorf has to offer.”
