FOREST CITY, IOWA, September 11, 2017 –  Waldorf University is pleased to feature Watercolors by Marvella Blome in its gallery in the Campus Center now through October 6. An artist reception will be held on Thursday, September 21 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. in the gallery, with Blome speaking at 7 p.m.

“We are very excited to showcase Marvella’s work in our gallery for our students and the public to enjoy,” said Waldorf University Art Director Dean Swenson. “Marvella is a true talent and her work showcases a range of subjects that appeals to all ages.”

Blome has loved art from a young age. She began her career as a commercial artist earning her commercial art degree at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo. After graduation, she designed rings for Jostens in Owatonna, Minn., before returning to Hawkeye Community College to teach.

After teaching for several years, Blome moved back to northern Iowa, married her husband and raised a family. During this time, she worked for the Forest City Summit in Forest City as a graphic designer. She also taught classes in the Communication Department at Waldorf University.

Blome finally decided to leave the field of graphic design to pursue her true passion in the fine arts. She opened her own studio which is located near Thompson, Iowa. Having worked in a variety of mediums she finds watercolor to be the most rewarding.

Blome paints a range of subjects but finds it the most challenging and satisfying when she does paintings of people. In each of her paintings she tries to create some kind of emotion that comes through her paintings. The type of paintings she creates are more traditional and realistic.

Blome currently is associated with two art groups in the state of Iowa: the Iowa Artist’s and the Iowa Watercolor Society. She is a signature member of the Iowa Watercolor Society. Her works have been the recipient of awards including: People’s Choice Award and Best of Show.

Watercolors by Marvella Blome is on display through Friday, October 6. Waldorf University’s Gallery, located in the Campus Center, is open from 8 am to 10 pm when classes are in session. The gallery is free and open to the public.
