Description

Introduction to the elements and standards for APA style. Provides students with the ability to use the APA manual in implementing effective writing skills for academic work.

Objectives

  1. Develop a basic familiarity with the APA Manual (in terms of how to use it as a reference tool for coursework writing projects.
  2. Develop the ability to use APA style for reference citations for a variety of sources.
  3. Develop the ability to use APA style for in-text citations for a variety of sources.
  4. Develop the ability to appropriately integrate source material into academic writing projects.
  5. Develop some degree of familiarity and ability to use APA style guidelines to write in ways that are standard for academic purposes with regard to style, mechanics, clarity and conciseness, as well as for giving appropriate credit for sources used in your academic work.
  6. Develop basic understanding and ability to competently use quotation, paraphrase, and summary.
