The Ingvoldstad Bible Collection

The Ingvoldstad Bible Collection was given to Voss Memorial Library in the early 1970s. The Ingvoldstad family donated them after Rev. Orlando Ingvoldstad, the collector of the Bibles died in 1969. The collection consists of over 200 Bibles in 15 different languages, dating from 1599 to 1967.
Waldorf College was chosen from a number of other colleges considered to receive the Ingvoldstad family donation. Waldorf was chosen because a mutual friend, Reverend Osborne Bruland, served as head librarian and curator of Waldorf College from 1958-1978.
Pastor Ingvoldstad began his collection in the 1930s. The first Bible he found was an old German Bible located in a rear room of one of the second-hand bookstores in Chicago that he often walked through. The bookstore owner had no use for a German Bible, since he and many of his customers could not speak German. Because the owner didn't want the Bible, Pastor Ingvoldstad received it for free and started his Bible collection that day.
