The Ingvoldstad Bible Collection

The Ingvoldstad Bible Collection was given to Voss Memorial Library in the early 1970s. The Ingvoldstad family donated them after Rev. Orlando Ingvoldstad, the collector of the Bibles died in 1969. The collection consists of over 200 Bibles in 15 different languages, dating from 1599 to 1967.

Waldorf College was chosen from a number of other colleges considered to receive the Ingvoldstad family donation. Waldorf was chosen because a mutual friend, Reverend Osborne Bruland, served as head librarian and curator of Waldorf College from 1958-1978.

Pastor Ingvoldstad began his collection in the 1930s. The first Bible he found was an old German Bible located in a rear room of one of the second-hand bookstores in Chicago that he often walked through. The bookstore owner had no use for a German Bible, since he and many of his customers could not speak German. Because the owner didn't want the Bible, Pastor Ingvoldstad received it for free and started his Bible collection that day. Anna Marie Mitchell's Japanese Collectibles

Anna Marie and her collection Anna Marie Mitchell teaches Japanese to students on the Waldorf campus. Ms. Mitchell went to Japan as a missionary in 1950, returning to the United States in 1982. During those 32 years, she learned about the Japanese culture by living in four different towns, establishing a church, and working for another church. She also taught Bible School for 18 years and taught many elementary age missionary children. "Japan has a very rich and interesting culture," Ms. Mitchell said when asked about her time there.

In 1983, Ms. Mitchell joined the Waldorf College staff. She chose to donate to Waldorf many artifacts and other collectibles, many gifts from people she knew in Japan. They can now be found in the Waldorf Archive Room
