U.S. Fire Administration College Internship Program
The U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) is currently accepting applications under the USFA College Internship Program. The program is for those interested in a career in the fire and emergency services or instructional design related to fire service training.

Students accepted into the intern program receive the opportunity to work at the National Emergency Training Center (NETC) in Emmitsburg, Maryland to assist in the development and maintenance of National Fire Academy (NFA) course and curriculum materials, conduct basic research and summarize information from office files and other sources, as well as perform basic editing and review of the training materials to assure they reflect current practices.

Students conduct supervised research and receive experience in disciplines including, but not limited to, Fire and Emergency Services curriculum, (Fire/Arson and Explosion Investigation, Executive Development, Management Science, Training Program Management, Hazardous Materials, Planning and Information Management, Emergency Medical Services and Safety, Public Fire Education, Fire Prevention Management, Fire Protection Systems and Equipment, Incident Management), National Emergency Training Center (NETC) Library Services, Television Studio Management, and General Business Management related to the Fire and Emergency Services. Students may also have the opportunity to explore instructional design for adult learning environment.

Students accepted into the program receive:

•Campus housing in a private room. The housing arrangement promotes social interactions with Fire and Emergency Services professionals from around the United States and provides a wonderful opportunity to forge long-lasting friendships and potential career contacts.
•Opportunity to attend up to two (2) National Fire Academy courses.
Students are expected to work full-time with USFA Staff; participate in regular meetings; and participate in emergent projects as needed. The USFA is part of the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency. The campus is located in rural Maryland, approximately 10 miles south of historic Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and approximately 60 miles from Baltimore and Washington, D.C.

Applicants must:

•be a U.S Citizen;
•be enrolled as a student at least half-time at a regionally accredited institution in the U.S.;
•demonstrate an interest in training and education and a career in the Fire and Emergency Services or allied disciplines, including instructional design; and;
•receive approval from the educational institution prior to participating in the program.
Specific Requirements. Depending on the program area, the applicants may be required to:

•be a sophomore or junior who has successfully completed introductory courses in a field related to Fire and Emergency Services; and,
•maintain a 3.0 GPA in the discipline.
Submit a complete application consisting of:

•Cover letter
•Three (3) letters of reference from college or university faculty
•College transcripts
•Personal statement of interest
•A written verification from the student's educational institution showing proof of current enrollment in school
Volunteer service is limited to services performed by a student, with the permission of the institution at which the student is enrolled, as part of an agency program established for the purpose of providing educational experience for the student.

A student participating under an agency volunteer program is not considered to be a Federal employee for any purposes other than injury compensation or laws related to the Tort Claims Act. Service is not creditable for leave accrual or any other employee benefits.
