To recruit new talent to the insurance industry, to identify future leadership for Holmes Murphy & Associates, to hire interns post-graduation, to mentor graduates through a structured training program and to lead them to career success.

Through shadowing successful insurance professionals, and mentoring from a dedicated coach, students will learn more about the insurance cycle and what it takes to be successful in this business. While students are not required to sell or work directly with clients during the summer, students will have many hands-on opportunities which allow them to develop a solid foundation and skills:

•Network with Leaders. Learn from Property Casualty, Employee Benefits, Captives and Financial Services experts located in offices across the country.
•Grow Your Profession. Learn our company history, core values, and goals through HMA Intern University sessions.
•Develop Communication Skills. Present an article to the intern team and track learning experiences through a weekly blog.
•Gain Insurance Knowledge. Research insurance specific topics and develop a career development plan.
•Build Leadership Skills. Organize annual Quarterly Sales Performance Meeting, participate in book club discussions, and team projects.
•Present Your Ideas. Exposure to a variety of individual and group presentation opportunities.
•Become a Problem Solver. Seek out appropriate resources to solve problems and complete assignments.

Interns that successfully complete the 12 week program and have a potential for a future with Holmes Murphy may be invited to return the following year for Summer #2.

Interns work full-time (38.75 hours per week) summer position and are paid $12.00 per hour. Interns will be required to spend time at our Des Moines, IA headquarters during the training and development phases. Depending on an individual’s situation, housing options could be available. Upon graduation and completion of appropriate training, students will be placed in their home location or an office location which is mutually agreed upon between Holmes Murphy and the intern.
