Pollution Prevention Intern Program

Challenging, hands-on internships with the Iowa Pollution Prevention Program offer an introduction to project management through assigned projects at top Iowa companies. Interns experience a unique partnership of academia, industry and government all working together to achieve environmental and economic results. Interns apply their acquired technical skills to their assigned project to research, identify opportunities, analyze economic benefits and implement improvements.

As an intern in the nationally recognized Pollution Prevention Intern Program, you will work on-site at a company or institution dedicated to protecting the environment and saving money through projects reducing or eliminating waste and inefficiencies. Interns serve as project managers with experienced employees and receive technical support from Iowa Department of Natural Resources Pollution Prevention Services engineers.

Here are just a few examples of project areas:

Lighting retrofits
Boiler efficiency
Heating, ventilation and cooling efficiency
Optimization of a compressed air system
Water conservation and wastewater treatment
Interior and exterior thermographic analysis
Solid waste generation and handling
Process improvements
Hazardous chemical analysis and replacement

Interns will receive a salary of $2,200 per month, plus
a $500-per-month housing stipend for the internship.
