Kristin Pickett is the Department Chair of Criminal Justice at Waldorf College. She started at Waldorf in fall of 2014. Current courses, residentially, are Introduction to Law Enforcement, Introduction to Criminal Justice Administration, Introduction to Correctional Theory and Probation and Community Corrections. She also teaches Introduction to Sociology and Survey of Global Societies and Cultural Geography online.
Her primary areas of research include criminology, juvenile justice & delinquency, decision-making & ethics, child advocacy, and mental health issues in the criminal justice system. Current research is on the relation to of criminal justice media and television to the societal views of the criminal justice system. Also she is currently beginning work on an Introduction to Criminal Justice textbook.
Prior to working at Waldorf, Professor Pickett worked at Ball State University, in Indiana, teaching in the Department of Criminal Justice. She also worked in a juvenile psychological correctional unit and adult community mental health. Between both institutions she taught at, she has been teaching for around ten years.
Professor Pickett is a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority and currently serves on the Advisory Board for the Gamma Eta Chapter at Ball State University. She also is a member of a national criminal justice fraternity, Lambda Alpha Epsilon, and was a charter member of the chapter at the first college she worked at. For many years she has been a member of the National Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Association, Mother’s Against Drunk Driving and the Midwestern Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences.
Degrees held include a B.S in Criminal Justice & Criminology and a Master’s of Public Administration with a Criminal Justice & Criminology Concentrate.
Pickett is faculty advisor for Waldorf College's chapter of national criminal justice fraternity Lambda Alpha Epsilon.
