Kristin Pickett is the Department Chair of Criminal Justice at Waldorf College and online Program Director (Criminal Justice.) Professor Pickett started residentially at Waldorf in August of 2014, and along with teaching Criminal Justice and Political Science on campus, she also teaches Criminal Justice and Sociology courses online.
Her primary areas of interest include criminology, juvenile justice & delinquency, child advocacy, and mental health issues in the criminal justice system.
Prior to working at Waldorf, Professor Pickett worked at Ball State University, in Indiana, teaching in the Department of Criminal Justice. She also worked in a juvenile psychological correctional unit and in adult community mental health. Between both institutions she taught at, she has been teaching for around ten years.
Professor Pickett is a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority and currently serves on the Advisory Board for the Gamma Eta Chapter at Ball State University. She is also a member of a national criminal justice fraternity, Lambda Alpha Epsilon, and was a charter member of the chapter at the first college she worked at and at Waldorf (Iota Beta Phi chapter.) For many years she has been a member of the National Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Association, Mother’s Against Drunk Driving, the Midwestern Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences, The International Women's Leadership Association, The American Criminal Justice Association and The American Criminology Association.
In spring of 2015, after her first academic year at Waldorf College, Professor Pickett was given the Professor of the Year award, a student elected honor. She was also chosen as the higher education delegate for the International Women's Leadership Association, and received the title of Elite Educator. The National Association of Distinguished Professionals recognized Professor Pickett as a Woman of Distinction in the summer of 2015.
Degrees held include a B.S in Criminal Justice & Criminology and a Master’s of Public Administration with a Criminal Justice & Criminology Concentrate.
Pickett is faculty advisor for Waldorf College's chapter of national criminal justice fraternity Lambda Alpha Epsilon.
