Waldorf Associate Professor of Music publishes book

Dr. Kristín Taylor finished her book, The Complete Solo Piano Works of  Thorkell Sigurbjörnsson. It is based on and dedicated to the life and musical works of Thorkell Sigurbjörnsson, an Icelandic pianist, composer and good friend of Dr. Taylor. Sigurbjörnsson is internationally known for is works that assimilate seemingly unrelated elements while maintaining diverse styles and genres.  

Dr. Taylor was invited to present at the College Music Society's national convention in St. Louis in October, where she will present on a portion of the research she has gained while studying Thorkell Sigurbjörnsson. The presentation is titled "A Composer at Play: Works for Flute and Piano by Thorkell Sigurbjörnsson" and it will trace Sigurbjörnsson's development as a composer through three of his pieces. Special attention will be given to the remarkable variety of styles and compositional influences of these works as well as a brief discussion of hte performer for whom the works were written. 

Because of her expertise on Icelandic music, Dr. Taylor has been asked to assist in writing "Icelandic Soundings," a book being completed by British publishing company Equinox Publishing. Dr. Taylor will also be performing at the Mu Phi Epsilon Professional Music Fraternity's international convention as a perforamance delegate in Sacramento in August.
