Waldorf presents Fine Arts Weekend attendees with over $100,000 in scholarships

Waldorf College
FOREST CITY – Waldorf College’s Fine Arts Weekend (Feb 14-15) wrapped up with the awarding of over $100,000 (over a four-year period) in scholarships to students choosing to attend Waldorf College.
“It’s always exciting to see the next class of potential Freshmen show their abilities and getting the opportunity to work with them,” Dr. Robert AuFrance, Director of Theatre, said.
Kaleb Michel of Decorah, IA., Courtney Swessinger of Des Moines, IA., and Carolyn Cibula of  Chelsea, IA., each received the Fine Arts Affinity Scholarship.  Hanna DeVries of Albert Lea, MN., received the Fine Arts Scholarship.
Fine Arts Weekend attendees were put through a non-traditional audition process prior to receiving their scholarships. Participants were asked to do a “cold-reading” where they were given a script they were unfamiliar with and asked to perform unprepared.
“This non-traditional audition style is a good way to see if students have good instincts and assess where they are in their performance level,” Dr. AuFance said. “It can really help us, as professors, to tailor their field of study to help them improve.”
Upon attending Waldorf College, these students will join the approximately 40 theatre participants already at the school. They can assist productions by joining casts, creating props and costumes, working backstage, or many other projects. All four recipients will become part of Waldorf’s Music Department via vocal or instrumental ensembles.
The next Waldorf College Fine Arts Weekend will be held April 4-5, 2014 on the Waldorf campus. Registration forms can be found at .  Participants are guaranteed at least $1,000 in scholarships.
