Waldorf College Theatre Company to tour Midwest

Waldorf College
FOREST CITY, Iowa | The Waldorf Theatre Company will be performing Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” on their 2014 summer tour across the Midwest. They will be performing in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin – ending with a final performance at Pilot Knob State Park near Forest City, Iowa, on June 6 at noon.
Many Shakespeare plays have 20-40 roles in a production. Because the Waldorf College Theatre Company has seven actors, many of the cast members are playing multiple roles. “We are doubling, tripling, and quadrupling parts where we can,” Dr. David Sollish, assistant professor and technical director of theatre, said. They are also using puppets to depict characters. “Puppets were indeed popular in Shakespeare’s time, so we are not straying too far from original practices.”
Dr. Sollish believes it is important for theatre students to tour during their undergraduate experience. “A great deal of the professional jobs out there are on tour – whether it be a large Broadway tour or a small van tour like we are doing,” he said. “I try to make the experience as much like any other professional tour so that they not only have the credit on their resume, but they know what to expect and how to act in the tour situation.”
The cast list:
Mackenzie Acri – playing Egeus, Snug, Cobweb, Wall, Lion
