Dinner theatre at Waldorf College July 18-19

Waldorf College

The community is invited to attend a special dinner theatre production at Waldorf College on Thursday, July 18 and Friday, July 19 to benefit the Waldorf College Theatre Company, a traveling troupe of students that performs throughout the Midwest each summer.

The evening begins at 6 p.m. with a taco salad dinner served in the Salveson Ballroom. The Clubhouse, an original comedy about marriage and ultimatums, follows at 7:30 p.m. in Smith Theatre. Tickets are $12 each, which covers both the meal and performance.

The Clubhouse is a story about William, a man in his mid-50s recently forced to retire by his wife. When she demands he tear down his childhood clubhouse as a retirement project, he objects, and a battle of wills follows. Through a series of comical events, the audience will see how far he is willing to go to save his beloved clubhouse.

Written and directed by Waldorf’s associate professor of theatre Dr. Bob AuFrance, The Clubhouse was inspired by events in an area where he used to live. “There was a farmhouse on the same road as a homeowner’s association, and there were all sorts of conflicts between the two,” explains Dr. AuFrance. “I always thought it would make a good story, and when I was trying to come up with a one-word title for a different play, I thought of the name The Clubhouse. It all just came together.”

Adds Dr. AuFrance, “The show is a perfect opportunity to provide local entertainment for community members, as well as for people that come early for the WIT rally.”

Waldorf professors, staff members, and a student make up the play’s cast. Parents and grandparents should note that the show is not geared toward children. To reserve tickets, contact Dr. AuFrance at 641-585-8288 or
