Forest City, Iowa – The Waldorf Community Artist Series brings Mason City’s own Jazz Coalition Big Band to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 30.
The band’s arrangements will include the works of renowned composers such as Count Basie, Buddy Rich, Oliver Nelson, Thad Jones, Duke Ellington, and Quincy Jones.
“We wanted to bring some local instrumental talent to our series this year, “said Dr. Kristín Jónína Taylor, associate professor of music at Waldorf College and organizer of the community artist series. “This is going to be a wonderful opportunity for our audience to relax and enjoy some wonderful music performed by local musicians.”
The Jazz Coalition Big Band, which was formed in 2005, includes some of the finest jazz musicians from the North Iowa area. This concert will be the final performance in the community artist series this year.
“These are a group of great musicians,” said Dr. Brent Dodson, director of instrumental activities at Waldorf College, who has performed with the band several times. “This concert will be a real joy. The audience will enjoy the history and anecdotes related to each piece.” Dr. Dodson will play a solo trumpet feature in this concert as well.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students, and are available at the door.
