Opening Convocation welcomes new students to Waldorf College

FOREST CITY | Waldorf College will host orientation for first-year students this August. included in the orientation events is Waldorf College’s annual Opening Convocation, which will be held Friday, August 22 at 4 p.m. in the Atrium.
Waldorf College expects more than 170 guests to attend the Convocation ceremony, including students and Waldorf staff and faculty. More than ten countries will be represented by incoming freshmen this year, including Australia, Brazil, Germany, Serbia, and Nigeria. Steve Smith, campus pastor and chair of religion and philosophy, will lead the ceremony. David Behling, interim vice president of academic affairs, and Kristi Leonard, wellness department chair and associate professor of wellness, will speak and sophomore honors will be presented.
As a part of their welcome to Waldorf students are given a book titled Leading Lives that Matter: What Should We Do and Who Should We Be.  “Giving out this book has become a tradition,” Smith said. “ Part of the mission of this college is to prepare students to live lives that matter, to live lives that will make a positive impact on the world, and this book depicts those values.” The book is also used in the classroom during students’ experience at Waldorf College.
Orientation activities begin shortly after Convocation and continue through Saturday, August 23. Waldorf classes start August 25.
