Blue Stars to return to Waldorf campus

Waldorf College
FOREST CITY, Iowa – This spring will be the third consecutive year that the Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corps will hold their spring training on the Waldorf College campus.  They will be on campus from May 21 to June 11, holding extensive practice sessions to prepare their competitive show for tour.
The Blue Stars provides students ages 14-22 with educational opportunities in the area of performance arts to develop life skills. Their mission states: members learn through teamwork, dedication, strong work ethic, setting goals, and discipline that success can be achieved both on and off the performance field. Blue Stars is a member of Drum Corps International (DCI), where they compete on an international level.
The Blue Stars will practice from approximately 8:00 in the morning to 9:00 at night with breaks for meals and water.  “It is inspiring to watch this group of young people work and rehearse. They are an excellent example of young people engaged in a positive activity of teamwork, dedication and work ethic,” said Chris Ward, music office coordinator and adjunct instructor of music
“Waldorf is a perfect host for the Blue Stars – providing dorm rooms, indoor and outdoor rehearsal space, and space for leisure and relaxing,” Ward said. Ward has been involved with the Blue Stars for over 30 years, holding the Executive Director position of the organization for two of them. Ward currently directs and coordinates the Waldorf Warrior Drum line and directs FusionIowa, a campus organization that competes on DCI’s newest SoundSport circuit.
The Blue Stars will hold a free community performance on Tuesday, June 10th at 7:00 p.m. at the Forest City High School football field, weather permitting.  Waldorf College’s commitment to DCI continues in August, where they will be hosting a drum corps show for ten competing corps.  For more information about FusionIowa or the Warrior Drumline, contact Chris Ward at or (641) 585-8177.
