Forest City, Iowa – Students who want to participate in Waldorf College’s renowned communications program now have an off-campus option with a newly developed online communications major.
The online communications degree is modeled after the courses and experiences that students enrolled in the residential program encounter. “We are working very hard to ensure the residential and online degrees are as similar as possible,” explains Assistant Professor of Communications Tiffany Olson. She continues, “The same projects are assigned to both learning environments.”
With courses designed and taught by Waldorf’s residential communications faculty, the online program offers hands-on experience with cutting-edge design and production technologies. “It will be exciting and challenging to see how the hands-on training translates online,” says Olson.
The online program offers flexibility that is especially appealing to adult learners, explains Waldorf’s Director of Online Learning Laura Friesenborg. She continues, “With online delivery, we are able to offer Waldorf’s renowned communications program to learners who live in other states or even on military bases overseas.” The program is also ideal for local students who have full schedules with work or family.
Students and instructors will interact through Blackboard – an online academic system for sharing resources like documents, videos, and presentations – and email. Instructors are also exploring using videos to provide feedback on student projects says Olson.
Online communications courses can be taken on a full-time or part-time basis. Full-time students taking two courses per term can anticipate graduating in four years with a bachelor of arts degree. Transfers from community colleges or other institutions are also accepted.
The first term of the new online communications program starts February 6, 2013. Students can enroll by calling 877-267-2157 or by completing an admissions application at Waldorf’s online program website: www.waldorf.edu/online.
“Through the online programs, we are able to extend the reach of the Waldorf experience,” says Friesenborg. She continues, “Waldorf College offers the prestige of a brick-and-mortar college and is regionally accredited – the gold standard in higher education – distinguishing it from other online programs.”
Waldorf also offers online bachelor’s degrees in business administration, criminal justice, criminal justice administration, fire science administration, organizational leadership, and psychology, as well as an associate’s degree.
