Waldorf College continues the tradition of organ donation awareness on campus by hosting its annual 5K on Saturday, September 29. Revenues from the event will be donated to the Iowa Donor Network.
Director of Student Health Services Mary Mathiasen organized the event this year.
“Waldorf has seen both sides of organ donation,” Mathiasen said. “We’ve seen people give life to others as well as the joy from a recipient of that gift. We’d like to continue that servant attitude by raising awareness and encouraging people in our community to become organ donors.”
According to the Iowa Donor Registry, over 600 people are waiting for an organ donor in Iowa and over 100,000 in the United States.
“We want to do our part to make a difference in the lives of people on the waiting list. This is just another way of continuing Waldorf College’s long-standing tradition of service.”
The Homecoming 5K starts at Salveson Hall on the Waldorf College campus at 8 a.m. Registration costs $20 and includes a long sleeve t-shirt. Participants and spectators can register to be an organ donor at the race. Additional information about Waldorf College’s homecoming events can be found online at www.waldorf.edu/homecoming.
