27 Students Attend Open House at Waldorf College

Open HouseCatherine Hager said Waldorf College, a four-year liberal arts school, is exactly what she is looking for in a college.

“I really like it. Everybody is really cool,” said Hager, a sophomore who plays volleyball at College of the Siskiyous in Weed, Calif. She is considering transferring to Waldorf to play volleyball in the fall. Hager said she appreciates a small-campus atmosphere, such as the one Waldorf provides. She was happy to hear that the college has opportunities for student leadership and has a student ambassador program in the admissions department.

“That is what makes the college experience: getting involved,” she said.

Hager, originally from Hillsboro, Ore., was one of 27 students who participated in an open house at Waldorf on Jan. 22. High school seniors and potential transfer students visited from Iowa, Minnesota, California, Kansas, Wisconsin and Oregon, along with their parents or other family members.

At the recent open house, visitors had the opportunity to tour the campus, meet students, speak with professors and learn about the variety of degree programs Waldorf offers. Also, prospective students were able to meet with a panel of current Waldorf students privately.

Students learned that Waldorf is a dry (no alcohol served) campus, that professors go out of their way to help students (even responding to text messages), and that Waldorf students are encouraged to get involved in the more than 35 clubs and organizations at the school.

Tony Wical, an admissions counselor at Waldorf College, said an open house allows prospective students to get all of their questions answered and to get a good sense if the school is right for them. It also gives parents a chance to learn more about the school.

“Every person gets individual attention,” Wical said, adding that each admissions counselor is assigned approximately five students per open house. “We make a personalized commitment to each student.”

Waldorf conducts an open house once per month. The next open house is scheduled on Feb. 19.
