Waldorf College to Host Scholarship Day on Dec. 4

Jason Eck

Waldorf College will host a Scholarship Day on Saturday, Dec. 4 to give prospective freshmen a chance to win one four-year, full-tuition scholarship and five, four-year $2,000 scholarships.

“This is a great opportunity not just to come and learn about Waldorf College, but perhaps win a full-tuition scholarship,” said Bob Alsop, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college. “I encourage all eligible students to come out and compete. At the very least, you will walk away with free books your first semester with Waldorf’s loan-a-book program. With the price of textbooks, this is well worth your time.”

The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Atrium, located between Salveson and Thorson halls. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend.

As a part of Scholarship Day, participants will write an essay and interview with faculty members and staff. Students not selected for the scholarships will receive textbooks at no cost during their first fall semester. (Textbooks must be returned at the completion of the semester in normal wear-and-tear condition.)

The Dec. 4 event will coincide with a campus open house, which will give prospective students an opportunity to tour the campus, meet students and professors, and learn about the variety of degree programs available at Waldorf College. Information also will be available about student clubs and organizations, residential life, community activities, and athletic and fine art programs.

New freshman applicants can qualify to compete for scholarships if they:

  • Have either at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA (with a minimum score of 18 on the ACT or 860 score on the SAT)
  • Or have at least a 26 score on the ACT or 1190 score on the SAT (with a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA)
  • Full-tuition and $2,000 winners must maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA at Waldorf College to keep their scholarship.

Students must apply online at Applications are due by Nov. 29. Registration will not be available the day of the event.

In addition to applying online, students must fax or mail a copy of their high school transcript and ACT scores to the admissions office by Nov. 29. Information should be faxed to (641) 585-8125 or mailed to Waldorf College Admissions, 106 S. Sixth St., Forest City, IA 50436.

After the college receives the application materials, a representative will e-mail participants Scholarship Day details, including directions to the Waldorf campus, a schedule of activities and lodging information for Forest City.

A second Scholarship Day will be conducted on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011. Students will have the opportunity to compete again for a four-year, full-tuition scholarship and five, four-year $2,000 scholarships.
