Softball continues non-conference struggle

Jim Bills

Winning only one non-conference game so far this season, the Waldorf College softball team continued their struggles on Monday afternoon, as they dropped a pair to NCAA DIII team, Buena Vista University. The Warriors fall to 1-11 against non-conference opponents, as they lost 10-7 in game one and 4-2 in game two against the Beavers.

In the first inning of game one, the Warriors scored as Laura Read hit a RBI single to drive in Andrea Blanchard, but the Beavers answered right back scoring a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning.

Buena Vista went on to score four more runs in the second inning to take a 5-1 lead, until Waldorf came back to take a 6-5 lead in the fifth inning on a five run rally. Amy Nelson started things off for the Warriors as she hit a single, and was then advanced on a ground out from Logan Story. Later in the inning, Katie Bredlow singled to advance the runners, and was followed by a RBI single from Jennifer McLarney. The Warriors had five hits to take the 6-5 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Beavers had a small two run rally to steal the lead back, but Waldorf was not done as they tied the game at seven in the sixth inning on a triple from Andrea Blanchard and a double from Macey Hickes.
