Steven has practiced leadership in organizations ranging from two to five generations. His work experience is very diverse. Some of his responsibilities have ranges from sanitation worker, firefighter/EMT, emergency medical services supervisor, chief fire officer, and college professor.
Steven joined the Waldorf faculty in 2010. In addition to department director, he serves as faculty member in the Waldorf A.A. in Fire Science, B.S. in Fire Science Administration, B.A.S in Fire Science, Administration, and M.A. Organizational Leadership – Fire/Rescue Leadership Concentration
Much of his leadership and instruction is focused on “outside the box” concepts.
His primary area of research include leadership challenges among diverse audiences and communities and enhancing professional development and life quality. He is currently developing a program for Leadership across Gender, Ethic, and Cultural Lines.
Steven also serves as an instructor for the United States Department of Homeland Security/United States Fire Administration. He has instructed leadership and other courses in several states including Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Connecticut, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, and Texas.
Steven served as Instructor Chief for the MS State Fire Academy. He developed and directed the delivery of many leadership and other courses for public safety personnel and private industry personnel. He developed and implemented the Designated Mississippi Fire Chief program and the Designated Mississippi Chief Fire Officer program.
He is a member of several associations and groups such as the National Society of Executive Fire Officers, Mississippi Fire Chiefs Association, Mississippi Fire Fighters Association, etc.
He enjoys fishing, camping, swimming, and playing basketball. He has three sons and two dogs.
