Waldorf College is awarded the Title III Strengthening Institutions Grant!

Overview
Funded by the U.S. Department of Education, the Title III "Strengthening Institutions - Development" Grant was created in 1965. This grant is designed to be transformational, by funding college growth initiatives and ultimately strengthening the viability of the college. Given the impact of a potential grant, the application process is competitive. In 2004, only 53 institutions nationwide were recipients of this grant.

Purpose
Selection for the $1.75 million Title III grant was based on Waldorf's potential for growth and transformation, specifically in the areas of academic programs, institutional management, and fiscal stability. The Title III funding is expected to impact Waldorf dramatically, with new bachelor's degrees in biology, psychology, and secondary education science, as well as major funding designated for academic technology, faculty development, and an investment of $125,000 in the endowment. Dispersed over the next five years, all funding must support the major goals outlined in the grant proposal, and progress toward these goals must be reported to the U.S. Department of Education regularly. Eight major goals are outlined in the grant, with specific measurable objectives attached to each major goal.

Goals

  1. Waldorf College will strengthen academic program offerings by developing and implementing three essential bachelor's degrees in the areas of science, education, and social science.
  2. Waldorf College will create a technologically enhanced teaching-learning environment.
  3. Waldorf College will increase the currency of in-field knowledge and develop the academic assessment expertise of the faculty.
  4. Waldorf College will enhance its library holdings and facilities to reflect a BS/BA institution.
  5. Waldorf College will design and implement critical partnerships with two-year institutions to facilitate student transfer and further increase college enrollment.
  6. Waldorf College will update its institutional equipment to current professional standards for a bachelor's degree program and will maintain an acceptable cycle of repair, upgrade, and replacement.
  7. Waldorf College will significantly improve its fiscal viability by increasing student enrollment and retention.
  8. Waldorf College will increase its endowment to $10 million, with new funds dedicated by the Board to academic and student scholarships.
