Waldorf College is located in Forest City , Iowa . Iowa is located in the north central part of the United States, known as the “Upper Midwest”, which has a reputation for being especially friendly, clean, quiet, uncrowded, and very safe. The crime rate in Iowa is among the lowest in the United States. The cost of living in the Midwest is lower than larger cities and the coastal regions of the U.S.
Iowa is known for its high educational standards, its small-town family values, and its many agricultural products. The area surrounding Forest City is mainly farmland with small towns dotting the landscape every 20 kilometers or so. There are four distinct seasons in Iowa. Summer is warm and quite humid; winter has temperatures frequently below freezing and snow; spring and fall are very pleasant and mild.
Forest City has a population of approximately 4500 people. The city is the headquarters of Winnebago Industries, a major manufacturer of recreational vehicles that employs nearly 3000 people. Forest City is located midway between Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota (population three million) and Des Moines , Iowa , the capitol city (population 400,000). Although students have no problems shopping for items they need in Forest City, the Mason City-Clear Lake metropolitan area, with major shopping centers and a commercial airport, is only 35 minutes away.
3. HOW BIG IS WALDORF COLLEGE?
Waldorf College has approximately 600 undergraduate students, about 40 of whom are international students representing 15 or more different countries.
One advantage of attending a small college, versus a larger university, is the type of instruction students receive. Excellent teaching is Waldorf’s highest priority. Waldorf’s student-to-faculty ratio is 15:1, which means students receive personal attention from their instructors. Because of its small size, students get to know each other and the faculty and staff well.
Another advantage to a smaller campus is the close proximity of classrooms to residential halls and other areas of the campus. The campus is located in the heart of Forest City and everything students may need is within easy walking distance of the campus.
4. WHAT MAJORS AND DEGREES DOES WALDORF OFFER?
Waldorf offers Bachelor Degrees in the traditional 4-year format (2 semesters/year). Requirements include a “core” of studies in the liberal arts. All degrees include an internship.
Bachelor Degrees are offered in Business (management, marketing, finance & banking), Biology, Communications (journalism, multimedia, electronic media, public relations), English (writing, literature, creative writing), Theatre Arts, History (history, political science, pre-law), Humanities, Foundations of Education, Music (performance, arts management, church music), Psychology, and Wellness (management, research/science, children’s wellness).
Waldorf College also offers two-year Associate in Arts (AA) degrees in liberal arts for those who wish to transfer to another institution to complete a bachelor degree not offered at Waldorf. Students also have the opportunity to earn a dual degree: a BA in Physical Science from Waldorf College with a BS in Chemical Engineering from Iowa State.
5. WHAT IS THE COST TO ATTEND WALDORF COLLEGE?
For the 2008-2009 academic year, the comprehensive costs outlined below include tuition, room and board, student technology and activities fees, phone and cable service, and medical insurance. Transportation to/from the U.S., books, supplies, meals during breaks, and daily living expenses are not included in this figure.

In order to obtain an F-1 visa necessary to study in the United States , the US Embassies normally require students to show proof of financial support for a minimum of one year, although regulations will vary by country. An I-20 form, necessary to obtain a visa, will not be issued until the student has paid the required tuition deposit and commitment deposit. Current semester fees must be paid before a student can register for the next semester’s classes.
6. ARE SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL AID AVAILABLE?
Waldorf College offers financial aid to international students in the form of an International Student Grant. (Grants are funds that do not have to be repaid to the college.) Students demonstrate strong academic potential are eligible for an International Student Grant.
To apply for financial aid, students must apply and be accepted for enrollment. They must complete and return Waldorf’s Declaration and Certification of Finances form, along with a certified bank statement from their family or sponsor indicating their ability to finance most, if not all, of the student’s education.
7. IS WALDORF COLLEGE ACCREDITED?
Yes, Waldorf College is fully accredited by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association of Schools and Colleges. Waldorf was founded in 1903 as an independent, residential college of liberal arts and sciences.
8. DOES WALDORF COLLEGE REQUIRE THE TOEFL EXAM?
Waldorf College requires all international students to take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) exam as part of the admission process. Waldorf’s institutional code is 6925. ACT, SAT, IELTS, or STEP EIKEN scores may be substituted for the TOEFL score.
Students who achieve a minimum paper-based score of 500, computer-based of 173, or internet-based of 61 will be considered for regular degree admission.
9. DOES WALDORF COLLEGE ACCEPT TRANSFER CREDIT?
Waldorf College accepts transfer credit from most other accredited colleges and universities around the world. Students who are interested in transferring to Waldorf should send in a certified copy of their transcripts, complete with English translation and course descriptions. If possible, please send a catalog (in English) from the institution. Transfer credit accepted by Waldorf is through the discretion of our Registrar.
