Special Ability Awards in Theatre are renewable for four years to Theatre Majors and Minors as well
as Non-Majors/Minors who commit to participation in Dept. activities and productions.

Theatre Special Ability Awards are based upon commitment to involvement, as well as
previous experience and talent. Assuming you would receive an award, what is your

Major: A major is anyone who commits to declaring a theatre major at Waldorf. A major in theatre contributes as an actor, designer or lead technician in all mainstage shows, maintains a portfolio of work, attends all production strikes and required workdays and events and completes 4-6 hours of work on one of our production crews each week throughout the semester. A major may focus on one of four tracks. Please choose one if you know which track you'd like to pursue:

Design/Technology

Writing

Generalist/Scholarly

     
    Minor: A minor is anyone who commits to declaring a theatre minor at Waldorf. A minor in theatre contributes to at least three of the four shows as an actor, designer, or lead technician, maintains a portfolio of work completed, attends all production strikes and all required workdays and events and completes 4 hours of work on one of our production crews each week throughout the semester. (NOTE: should you accept a scholarship from another co- or extra-curricular, the above amount will be halved.)
     
    Shakespeare Minor: A Shakespeare minor is anyone who commits to declaring a Shakespeare Minor at Waldorf. A minor in Shakespeare contributes to at least three of four mainstage shows as an actor, designer or lead technician (one of which must be the annual Shakespeare show), maintains a portfolio of work completed, attends all production strikes and all required workdays and events and completes 4 hours of work on one of our production crews each week throughout the semester. In select cases, a minor may satisfy some requirements via work in the history or English departments. (NOTE: should you accept a scholarship from another co- or extra-curricular, the above amount will be halved.)
     
   

Member: A member is anyone who commits to 4 hours of work on one of our production crews each week throughout the semester and who participates in three of the four mainstage shows and attends all production strikes, workdays and required events. Members must also commit to taking at least three courses, including one performance and one technical course, in the Theatre Dept. during their time at Waldorf.

     
   

Participant: A participant is anyone who commits to 2 hours of work on one of our production crews each week throughout the semester and who participates in at least two of the four mainstage shows and attends all production strikes, workdays and required events. Members must also commit to taking at least two courses in the Theatre Dept. during their time at Waldorf.

     
   

Special Note:

Waldorf students may have scholarships in multiple areas depending on offers in those areas. But students are strongly encouraged to focus on one or two areas. In most cases, students who major or minor in one area will focus in that area.
