Tyler Brandt is returning to Waldorf College as its head wrestling coach. He has already begun recruiting duties and is “excited about the opportunity to get back to my alma mater and build on the program’s successes.”
Since wrestling as a Waldorf Warrior in the late 80s, Brandt has coached athletes in over 200 dual meet victories, placed wrestlers in collegiate programs across the nation, and has become a Gold Level Certified wrestling coach through USA Wrestling.
“He knows the expectations of our programs and will bring us a good fit,” said Denny Jerome, Waldorf College’s athletic director.
Brandt has previously been the assistant head wrestling coach for Hall of Fame Coach Jody Thompson at Labette College in Parsons, Kansas, where he assisted the Cardinals to consecutive top 12 finishes and coached five All-Americans.
He was also a National Teams coach for both Arizona and Kansas for the Junior Freestyle and Greco-Roman teams, in addition to serving as the assistant strength and conditioning coach at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
He was also selected to join the United States Olympic Committee Coaches Education Summit Team to discuss challenges facing the Olympic movement through Youth Sports.
At Waldorf, Brandt—who earned a masters degree in education from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas, and is currently writing his doctoral dissertation on educational leadership through the University of Phoenix—will also serve as the assistant director of the Academic Achievement Center.
“He has a reputation for his wrestlers to excel and achieve at the highest level,” said Jerome. “We are extremely pleased to have him back at Waldorf.”
