2004 Hall of Fame Inductees
Dawn Schulz-Schaefer
Fresh off a high school career in which she was named first-team All-State in basketball for two consecutive years, Dawn Schulz brought her athletic talents from Parkston, South Dakota, to Waldorf College in the fall of 1991.
Dawn played volleyball both years at Waldorf, but clearly, basketball was her specialty.
She averaged 7 points and 3 rebounds during her freshman year as the Warriors posted a 15-15 record. The 1992-93 year was a breakout one for Dawn as she led Waldorf in scoring at 17.5 points per game while shooting 59% from the field and 75% from the free throw line. She also averaged 6 rebounds per contest and was named 1st Team All-Region XI.
Dawn saved her best for last as she poured in 30 points in a one-point overtime Regional Final victory over Kirkwood. She continued her strong play at the NJCAA National Tournament, earning All-Tournament Team honors.
Dawn continued her collegiate career at the University of South Dakota earning her BFA in Scenic Design for Theatre in 1995. She pursued further study at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, earning an MFA in Scenic Design for Film/Television/Theatre in 1999.
It didn’t take long for Dawn to make her mark in the television and film industry. Her list of credits include serving as the Art Director for “Survivor” (series 1-8), and the “Carol Burnett Specials”. Her work on “Survivor-Thailand” and “On Golden Pond” earned Emmy Award nominations.
She has held the position of Executive Art Director for CBS-Television City in Los Angeles for five years.

Rev. David Teig
In 1956, David Teig graduated from Ellsworth Consolidated High School in Ellsworth, Iowa, as the school’s all-time leading basketball scorer with 1542 career points.
He brought his athletic talents to Waldorf College where he played both baseball and basketball. It was on the hard-court where David really shined. He led the 1956-57 team in scoring with 342 points as the squad compiled a 15-12 record under Hall of Fame coach Rolf Lund. He led the ‘57-‘58 team with 328 points as they finished one game away from a trip to Hutchinson, Kansas and the NJCAA National Tournament. That team finished the season at 17-8, which was and still is today, the best single-season winning percentage for a men’s basketball team in Waldorf College history.
A former teammate of David Teig had this to say: “David was a great scorer and passer and also an excellent defender. As good as his athletic skills were his greatest attribute was leadership.”
David was awarded Waldorf’s Sportsmanship Award in 1958.
Following Waldorf, David earned his BA in History and English from Augustana College in Sioux Falls. For the next thirty years, he spent time in education, farming, sales, and bible camp ministry, before returning to Luther Seminary in St. Paul. He recently celebrated his tenth year of Ordination at Trinity Lutheran in Amery, Wisconsin.
David and wife, Dixie (also a Waldorf graduate), are the parents of four and grandparents of eight.

He played defensive end for the ’74 Warrior team that finished the season ranked #1 in team defense. That squad posted an 8-2 record, and McWilliams was named Honorable-Mention All-Conference.
The 1975 football season was a historic one for the Warriors. The team finished an undefeated 9-0, and was ranked 4th in the final NJCAA national poll. McWilliams spearheaded a Waldorf defense that finished 2nd in the nation in team defense. For his efforts, McWilliams was named first-team All Conference and first-team NJCAA All-American.
Paul continued his football career at Colorado State University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management.

1979 Softball Team
The 1978-79 Waldorf College softball team under the direction of Hall-of-Fame coaches, Wayne Johns and Dr. Richard Baur, had a year to remember.
It began with the fall team that went (13-3) capped off by a 5-1 victory over Iowa Central in the championship of the Fall Conference Tournament.
The spring 1979 team enjoyed more of the same success. The Warriors took a (12-2) regular-season record into the Region XI Tournament, and rattled off victories over NIACC, Kirkwood, and Ellsworth, before claiming the title with a 6-0 shutout of Ellsworth in the championship game.
The Regional Title propelled Waldorf into its second consecutive NJCAA National Softball Tournament in St. Louis, Missouri. The Warriors, ranked fourth in the final NJCAA National poll, were defeated by Phoenix College 5-4 in the tournament opener. Prince George Community College eliminated Waldorf 4-2 in loser’s bracket play.
Waldorf, which closed the spring season with a record of (17-4), excelled in all phases of softball.
The Warriors had a team ERA of 1.11 and were led by the pitching duo of Bennett and Lynch. Barb Bennett was (9-1) with a 1.28 ERA, and had 41 strikeouts in 60 innings of work. Sheila Lynch had a sparkling 0.94 ERA, struck out 45 in 67 innings pitched, and finished the spring with a record of (8-3).
Offensively, the team hit .307 led by Sheila Lynch’s .438 average. Five other squad members hit over .300 for the season. The squad struck out a mere 24 times in 476 at bats.
Defensively, the ’79 Warriors committed just 16 errors in 21 games.
