Hall of Fame By-laws

WALDORF COLLEGE
ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME

I. Name of Organization

Waldorf College Athletic Hall of Fame

II. Purpose

To recognize individuals who have been part of the athletic program at Waldorf College and who best exemplify the spirit, integrity and philosophy of the department and its programs. Former players, coaches, and other individuals who have made significant contributions and brought honor to the athletic program and college are eligible for selection to the Athletic Hall of Fame. This program is seen as a means to reaffirm the philosophy and values of the college and the athletic program through recognition of these individuals.

III. Objectives

  1. To recognize outstanding persons associated with athletics at Waldorf College.
  2. To display to students and the general public reminders of those selected and their achievements, which have been instrumental in creating an excellent athletic tradition at Waldorf College.
  3. To promote continuing interest in, and support for, the Waldorf College athletic program.
  4. To establish a public relations to further relations between the college and various constituencies.

IV. Criteria for the selection of student-athletes

  1. He/she must have been a letter winner at Waldorf College.
  2. Selections will not normally occur until at least ten years following the student-athlete's participation at Waldorf College.
  3. While athletic achievement is of prime importance, outstanding achievements after leaving Waldorf College will also be considered in making selections.
  4. Alumni serving on the selection committee may not be considered for induction into the Athletic Hall of Fame while serving on the selection committee.

V. Criteria for the induction of coaches

  1. Candidates selected to the Hall of Fame from the ranks of Waldorf coaches will be considered on the basis of:
    • length of their coaching career at Waldorf
    • concern for the welfare of students
    • support for the mission of Waldorf College and its academic program
    • character and integrity
    • outstanding achievements during and where appropriate, after
      serving at Waldorf.
  2. No member of the selection committee will be eligible for induction while serving on the committee.
  3. Five years must have elapsed after the completion of a candidate's service as a coach at Waldorf before he/she may be considered for selection. (This requirement may be waived in special circumstances)

VI. Criteria for the induction of people who have given special service to the department.

  1. A person who has supported the Waldorf College Athletic Department in a special manner, but who does not fall into category of former student-athlete or coach may be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame.
  2. Such candidates must receive affirmative votes by two-thirds of the selection committee to be selected.

VII. Selection Committee

  1. The Selection Committee shall be the official governing body concerning all projects, programs and actions concerned with the Waldorf College Athletic Hall of Fame.
  2. The committee will consist of:

    a. Waldorf College athletic director
    b. Waldorf College alumni director
    c. Retired Waldorf athletic director or retired Waldorf coach selected by the athletic director
    d. A faculty representative elected by the Academic Affairs Committee
    e. Two alumni representatives recommended by the athletic and alumni directors and confirmed by the majority vote of the Alumni Board of Directors
    f. A current member of the Waldorf coaching staff appointed by the athletic director.

VIII. Induction

Induction ceremonies shall be planned held annually on Homecoming weekend.

IX. Nominations

  1. Nominations may be made by alumni, parents, staff members or friends of the college. Once an eligible person's name is submitted, that individual will continue to be considered in succeeding years if they are not selected in the year in which nominated.
  2. Nominations should be submitted by letter listing all known accomplishments and shall include as much supporting documentation as possible.
  3. Nominations should be sent to:
