Waldorf College is pleased to announce Mason Babcock as the new men's golf coach. He began coaching duties in April as the spring golf season ended. Babcock is also the director of the college's academic achievement center.

“I’m pleased we are replacing quality with quality,” said Denny Jerome, athletic director for Waldorf College. “Our student-athletes will enjoy skilled leadership as we continue to develop a program that builds on their strengths and abilities.”

Babcock has run youth golf programs and given adult golf lessons in the Des Moines area in Iowa, and in the Phoenix, Ariz., area. His coaching experiences also include the sports of swimming, diving and baseball at the high school level, and basketball, softball and football for various youth and junior high programs. Golf, however, is considered Babcock’s passion, as he grew up on golf courses when his father coached for Wapello Community High School.

Babcock, who also serves as the director for Waldorf’s Academic Achievement Center, was a multiple sport student-athlete himself, even playing golf at the state tournament level.

“So much about golf is true to life,” said Babcock. “It’s about dealing with adversity and being mentally strong. I look forward to developing student-athletes who understand what it means to become the best they can be on the course and in life.”
