What is the Waldorf Lutheran College Association (WLCA)?

The purpose of the WLCA is to maintain, operate and conduct a college in Forest City, Iowa. The WLCA is comprised of 211 Lutheran congregations, most of who are affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). This “congregational ownership base” has helped Waldorf maintain a close relationship with the church. A congregation from any Lutheran church body can join the WLCA.

Board of Regent members are elected at the WLCA annual meeting. This board serves as the voice of the WLCA. The Board of Regents meet four times a year and oversees the business of the college.

Waldorf’s Mission

Waldorf College seeks to be a lively community of learning and faith. The College’s mission is to educate the whole person in the spirit of Jesus Christ, enabling the individual to experience fulfillment through a life of service.

AS A LIBERAL ARTS COLLEGE
Waldorf offers a core curriculum to help students develop a broad base of knowledge in a variety of disciplines, an interest in intellectual pursuits, the ability to reason and communicate, and a growing awareness of the global community.

AS A BACCALAUREATE DEGREE GRANTING COLLEGE
Waldorf offers programs leading to the bachelor of arts or bachelor of science degree, which build on the liberal arts foundation and concentrate on developing professional skills for careers or pursuing graduate work.

AS A TWO YEAR ASSOCIATE DEGREE GRANTING COLLEGE
Waldorf offers introductory curricula in humanities, arts, sciences and pre-professional studies, including programs for adult learners, all of which are designed primarily to facilitate successful transfer into baccalaureate degree programs not offered at Waldorf.

AS A RESIDENTIAL COLLEGE
Waldorf offers a carefully designed student life program, as well as extensive co-curricular, cultural and community service activities designed to create a campus atmosphere conducive to a well-rounded educational experience. We value high academic achievement, personal growth, the building of lasting friendships, and a growing awareness of community responsibility.

AS A CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY
Waldorf is committed to the Lordship of Jesus Christ and in its proclamation of the gospel seeks to explore the tension between Christian and societal values in order to engender spiritual growth, high moral principles and a commitment to Christian life. As a Christian community, Waldorf welcomes students of other faiths and creeds.

AS A LUTHERAN COLLEGE
Waldorf aims to model in all its programs and activities the Lutheran understanding of life lived in response to God’s grace—a divine calling in service to God and the human community.

AS A COLLEGE ENGAGED WITH THE WORLD
Waldorf College seeks to bring the world to Forest City by having up to 15% of its student body be international students. The Lutheran Leaders Program brings outstanding young people to campus from around the world. Waldorf also actively promotes opportunities for study abroad for all of its American students who choose this option.

Voting Rights of WLCA Members

Each congregation is entitled to one vote at corporate meetings. Member congregations may be represented at Association meetings by their pastor(s) and two delegates. The convocators and pastor(s) decide among themselves who will vote.

Application Process
