Physics Department
Two kinds of Physics courses are offered at Waldorf. The algebra based (no calculus) courses are Physics 221 and 222 while the calculus based courses are Physics 231 and 232. The calculus based courses are for students intending to study physics or engineering when they leave Waldorf, and for students who want more depth in their physics studies. Both kinds of courses do the same laboratory work. The emphasis in these physics courses is on understanding concepts, problem solving and real-life applications.
PHYSICAL SCIENCE
Physical Science at Waldorf is a course that seeks to help us better understand the physical world. Whether traveling and wondering how time changes with longitude or how climate changes with latitude or studying history and considering the outcome of a battle that was decided by Mother Nature not by the strength of armies - you are dealing with physical science. Winter driving strategies, saving money on energy bills, knowing why your lights go out when you use your microwave, are all related to physical science. How does the moon move through its phases or where and when can a certain star or planet be seen in the sky? These are all questions that can be answered in Physical Science.
