Japanese

Courses in the department shall seek to develop both communicative competence and cultural awareness.

JAP 101 Beginning Japanese I (4 cr.)
The basics of learning the Japanese alphabet are presented and memorized to prepare for reading and writing. Spoken Japanese is also part of this course.

JAP 102 Beginning Japanese II (4 cr.)
Reading, writing, and speaking Japanese are continued. Grammar is also introduced and utilized. (Prerequisite: JAP 101 or consent of instructor.)

JAP 201 Beginning Japanese III (3 cr.)
More advanced study and practice in the areas of reading, writing, and speaking. Continued review and teaching of grammar. (Prerequisite: JAP 102 or consent of instructor.)

Japanese Instructor - Anna Marie Mitchell

Anna Marie Mitchell is the Japanese language instructor at Waldorf.

Ms. Mitchell spent 32 years in Japan as a missionary and attended Japanese language school in Toyko. She has an AA degree from Waldorf and a BS in Education from Augustana Sioux Falls. Ms. Mitchell joined the Waldorf faculty in 1983.
