English Major

Because English majors have many options to choose from when it comes to a career (see the Careers page), the English BA at Waldorf offers students maximum flexibility when deciding what to focus their studies on.

The core of the program involves extensive literary study, in American, British and Global literature. Students can also take courses in advanced writing, like Creative Writing: Nonfiction, or in advanced literary theory. Those who are interested in helping mold other writers can work in the Waldorf Writing Center, which is run by the English Department. Another opportunity open to English majors is working on the staff of Crusader, the college's fine arts journal.

As a capstone, at the end of their time at Waldorf, students can choose to write a thesis (a major paper that allows them to bring all the skills they've learned at Waldorf to bear on an issue or problem in the field) or participate in an internship, in which they would put their skills as writers and problem solvers to practical use.
