English Education Major

The English Education major at Waldorf is designed to prepare potential teachers for the challenge and rewards of teaching Writing and Literature classes at the high school level -- both public and private. As a fully accredited institution and program, successful completion of the program will lead to licensure for teaching English at the secondary level in the State of Iowa.

The major requires substantial preparation in methods, assessment, reading and development courses, as well as a wide exposure to courses in the following disciplines: Writing, American Literature, British Literature and Global Literature. All students will participate in clinical experiences in schools, observing, but also working with students and teachers. In addition, students will be expected to complete a student teaching experience.

Courses in this program are taught by faculty in both the English and Education departments.
