Computer Information Systems (CIS) Department
Career opportunities in computer information systems (CIS) remain outstanding. The need for qualified professionals expands rapidly. If you are someone who enjoys problem solving, working with computer technology and the Internet, and likes working with people, the CIS field could provide an exciting and challenging career.
The CIS major at Waldorf College prepares graduates for entry-level professional positions in the information technology field. The depth of preparation positions graduates for a career of life-long learning in a field of rapidly changing technology. The focus of the major is on state-of-the-art technologies, such as web-based programming, e-business strategies, computer networking, graphical user interface development, and relational database applications.
Most CIS classes have a hands-on lab component to reinforce the theory and concepts of the course. HTML-based web development, Visual Basic .NET, and C++ development environments are used to provide realistic experiences throughout all courses of the curriculum. A professional internship gives a taste of the real world employment possibilites. Because of the extensive hands-on experience, former graduates of the Waldorf CIS Department have demonstrated that they can walk onto the job and be productive immediately.
Learning is done in the Waldorf College tradition of small class sizes and intense interaction with the CIS faculty. Most lab projects are completed on the laptop computer available to each full-time student, with software used by professional developers.
