Warranty/Repair The IT department will do minor repairs on site. A replacement computer may be issued so that your access to technology can continue while your laptop is being repaired. Warranty repairs are not charged to the user. User caused repairs (billable repairs) will be billed to the student for the cost of the repair. Examples: broken LCD panel due to being dropped or hit, liquid spills in the keyboard, stickers or ink markings, missing parts (keys, hinges, etc.).
Care of the Computer
Saving/Backing up Files and Documents, Network Storage and Mapping a Network Drive The most common storage location for your documents is the hard drive of your laptop. However, the IT department does not recommend that you rely on one storage location for your documents or other important files. Hard drive failure is a very common occurrence. Too often a hard drive will crash during finals week when many hours have been spent on that paper or final project. Waldorf College students are allowed 50 MB of storage space on the network for academic purposes. Requests are granted on a per semester basis. Items not permitted includes but are not limited to, storing and sharing of illegal MP3’s, obscene material or photos and files in violation of academic integrity. The contents of this network folder will be monitored by IT staff and any violation of the Waldorf Computer Use Policy will result in immediate removal of these files and student access to the folder removed. Request forms for network storage are available at the IT Department.
To map a network drive: Once you’ve received your network storage folder, you may wish to map a network drive for shortcut access to your folder. Double-click on Network Places (on desktop) and double-click on Waldorf-Vault. Locate your network folder and right-click on it. Select “map network drive” and click OK. Select a network drive letter (we recommend Z), be sure “reconnect at log-on” is checked and click "Finish". Your network drive shortcut will be visible when you click on "My Computer".
Microsoft Office
Microsoft Office XP Professional is the standardized software package used by Waldorf and is installed on every laptop. This includes Word, Excel, Access and Outlook. IT department staff are trained to instruct faculty, staff and students on the Microsoft Office XP Professional software individually or in small groups.

System Restore Your laptop comes with a feature called System Restore. This is particularly useful when you are making changes to your computer, such as installing software, but may like to go back to your previous configuration if you encounter problems with the installation. We recommend you create a system restore point once you've completed the network configuration of your computer.
