Camps of Courage and Friendship is a non-profit agency that creates unique educational, recreational and social opportunities for people of all ages with mental and physical developmental disabilities. We also offer conference and retreat services and professional team-building programs to the communities we serve.

•    $190/week, plus shared room and board; Bonus pay is available for staff who commit to 8 or more weeks.
•    4 week minimum requirement. Must complete a week of training in June.

POSITIONS AVAILABLE:

Counselor/Health Aid

Job Requirements:  The Counselor/Health Aid may be a first-year nursing student, a certified nursing assistant, PCA, college student or graduate with some health care training and experience. CHA supports vacationers with activities, socially and with personal care. CHA must be physically and emotionally strong, mentally alert, creative, and flexible, and must have the ability to work well with others. May assist with simple treatments and support vacationers chronic medical needs. CPR and First Aid equivalent is required.


Health and Medication Aide

Job Requirements:  The Health and Medication Aide- may be a graduate nurse, nursing student with clinical experience, other be of another health care major, or have experience in a health care setting.  The Health and Medication Aide  must complete an orientation/training session conducted by the Director of Health Care Services or Health Center Staff and successfully demonstrate all pertinent skills. First Aid/CPR certification or equivalent is required. HMA will reside in Health Center and rotate on-call status. Pleasant, positive attitude and good customer skills are required.  Must be detail orientated and organized.


LEAD COUNSELOR

Job Requirements: The Lead Counselor should be a high school graduate, preferably in college.  A successful volunteer experience Friendship Ventures may be an acceptable substitute for age requirement.  Must be physically and emotionally strong, mentally alert, creative, and flexible.  Must have the ability to lift at least 40 lbs., be able to demonstrate leadership skills and experience and  work well with others.
RESPITE COUNSELOR
Job Requirements: The Counselor should be a high school graduate; prefer one year of college.  A successful volunteer and/or junior counselor experience with the agency may be an acceptable substitute.  Must be physically and emotionally strong, mentally alert, creative, and flexible.  Must be able to communicate effectively and accept constructive comments and compliments.  Must be able to work well with others.

RECREATION LEADER

Job Requirements: The Recreation Leader should be a college student or graduate in recreation or related field.   Experience with individuals with developmental or physical disabilities is helpful.  Will possibly complete ropes course training and become a certified instructor of Archery though the National Archery Association.  CRP and First Aid Certified required.

NATURE / FARM YARD LEADER

Job Requirements: The Nature / Farm yard Leader should be a college student or graduate in animal or natural science or a related area. Must have experience with farm animals such as goats, sheep, chickens and bunnies.  Experience with  people with developmental disabilities is a plus. 

LIFEGUARD

Job Requirements: Should be at least 18 years old and should have previous experience with waterfront supervision and swimming instruction.  A W.S.I. Certificate or an equivalent is preferred and certification in Lifeguard Training is required.  Current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer is required.

    Ropes Course Leader
Requirements: The Ropes Course Leader should be a college student or graduate in art, art education, industrial arts, recreation or a related field.

Special Interest Leader

Job Responsibilities: To lead and teach of all ages and abilities in the activities featured in the Special Interest sessions. To create a positive and energized activity which feel comfortable to get involved.

Dishroom/Laundry/Housekeeping staff

Job Requirements:  Should be at least 16 years of age.


Nutritionist


Job Requirements: The nutrition specialist should be a student in a college level food and nutrition or dietetics program.

LEAD COOK

Job Requirements: Have at least two years experience and knowledge of skills involved in serving large groups of 100 or more.  Camp, school, or large group experiences usually ideal.  Knowledge in planning and preparing special diets is helpful.  Must be reliable and flexible enough to meet the many demands and interruptions that occur in preparing meals for a camp population.  The Food Service Director may delegate the responsibility of head cook to any cook.
   
COOK
Job Requirements:  Knowledge of food preparation is required.  Experience and knowledge of skills involved in serving large groups is helpful.  Be in good physical and mental health.  Have adequate dexterity, strength, and stamina to carry out schedule of three meals daily in a camp setting.

DINING HALL STAFF

Job Requirements:  Should be at least 16 years of age.

LAUNDRY STAFF

Job Requirements:  Should be at least 16 years of age.

Village Leader

Job Requirements: The Village leader should be at least 21 years of age. A college major in a related field is preferred, but experience in the field of developmental disabilities may be an acceptable substitute. One or more years of residential camp experience, preferably in a camp for people with developmental disabilities. Current certification in Basic First Aid, Child/Adult CPR and Community Water Safety.  Be able to provide “spunk” and positive energy to camp.

COOKING LEADER

Job Requirements:  The Cooking Leader should be a college student or graduate preferably in a dietetic/food/culinary area.  Willingness to work with a variety of dietary needs; experience with cooking and baking.  Prefer some experience with persons with developmental disabilities.

ARTS AND CRAFTS LEADER

Job Requirements: The Arts and Crafts Leader should be a college student or graduate in art, art education, industrial arts, recreation or a related field.  Prefer some experience with persons with developmental disabilities.
